Risk Modelling in Excel

Michael provides customised training courses in risk modelling, and related topics in the Excel environment.

Whereas some risk models can be built using only Excel with VBA, in most cases it is far quicker, more flexible and more transparent to use an add-in, such as @RISK® or other similar products, such as RiskSolver®.

Michael is Europe’s most experienced trainer in @RISK®, having trained more than 2000 people in this area since 2004. He also runs courses in risk modelling in Excel/VBA, as well as with other software platforms on request.

His courses are based on a number of key principles:

  • To be  interactive and “consultative”, ensuring that participants are engaged and can see the practical applications in their own context
  • To maximise hands-on experience with practical exercises, and integrate any required concepts directly with the exercises. The learning of any software features and supporting theory is built directly into the exercises.
  • To focus on value-added aspects of the analysis, and on those issueswhich participants generally find most challenging; typically these are not about the icons or basic features of supporting software, but relate to model formulation, the  implementation of dynamic models, the choice of distributions, and the modelling of dependencies or correlations. In addition, the interpretation and communication of risk modelling results is often a key concern.
  • To show a range of possible applications, to maximise the potential benefits to the participants

Michael prides himself on his ability to explain complex concepts in simple, focused, intuitive, and non-mathematical ways. Click here for details of Public Courses. The Testimonials section to this site shows a small set of the very positive feedback that he has received over the years.
